Students learn classical ballet techniques through barre exercises, center work, allegro, progressions, and choreography in a structured and fun environment. Kinesiology and French terminology topics are covered, discussed and reviewed regularly. Please see our Curriculum Page for our requirements for each level.
For students wishing to start pointe, a private evaluation will be conducted by Devin Sweet based on the Guidelines and Functional Criteria for Assessing Pointe Readiness, published by the Journal of Dance Medicine and Science. Students will be provided personalized feedback on their strengths and weaknesses along with future recommendations. Contact the school for more information.
Attire: Level I through V: Black camisole leotard, (white waist band for level III and up only), pink tights, ballet shoes, hair in bun with long bangs secured back. Short hair must be secured with a headband.
Adult Ballet & Stretch
Learn the techniques of classical ballet through barre exercises, allegro, adagio, and progressions. Open level and perfect for adults who danced in their youth and want to enjoy movement again, or college students wishing to continue their training. All levels accommodated and challenged accordingly.
Attire: Exercise appropriate clothing that does not restrict movement, ballet shoes, hair secured back, no shirts or shorts.
Jazz and Tap Combination
Students progress through learning high-energy jazz and tap technique with fun, age appropriate music! Warm ups, progressions and routines. Basic Pilates work and Kinesiology topics covered. (Students in level IV are strongly encouraged to be enrolled in ballet at CPAS)
Attire: Level I to III: Black camisole leotard, black jazz pants, black jazz shoes with no laces, black tap shoes, hair secured back. Boys: Solid color shirt, black sweatpants or long shorts, black tap and jazz shoes.
Attire: Level IV/V: Any solid color camisole leotard, black jazz pants, black jazz shoes with no laces, black tap shoes, hair secured back. Boys: Solid color shirt, black sweatpants or long shorts, black tap and jazz shoes.
This upbeat class familiarizes students with all the elements of hip-hop dancing. The class builds dancers’ skills weekly beginning with warm-up exercises, popping/locking/waving/tutting/breakdancing, choreography, and freestyling! Students will improve their musicality, learn numerous named dance skills, and incorporate the essence and their own interpretation of hip-hop style into their performance quality.
Attire: Exercise appropriate clothing not restricting movement. No shorts or jeans permitted. Jazz shoes or clean sneakers with a low tread. (NO SHOES WORN ON THE STREET ARE PERMITTED ON THE DANCE FLOOR, SHOES MUST BE NEW AND USED ONLY ON OUR DANCE FLOOR), hair secured back.
(Students are strongly encouraged to be currently enrolled in ballet at CPAS) A dance style that combines elements of ballet, modern, and Jazz dance techniques. Students will learn to incorporate gesture, facial expression, and controlled movements in order to execute movements and emotions fully. Besides emotional connection to music, lyrical dance encourages use of articulation, line, weight, and movement qualities. Lyrical requires strength, control and ease of movement. Due to its demand for an intermediate technical skill level, students are strongly encouraged to be currently enrolled in ballet at CPAS to participate.
Attire: Lyrical I/II may wear their ballet class attire. Contemporary Lyrical III/IV any solid leotard, tights or leggings, foot undies.
